Gillian Thorn on Red Bandanna Club – Delta Dog Therapy
March 19, 2020
Working with Christine Shaw Properties meant being a part of the team, I was asked to choose a cause that I could support and champion and decided that it would be as a member of the Red Bandanna Club and adopt a Delta Therapy Dog team. Delta Therapy Dogs is a national non-profit organisation that believes human-animal bonding improves quality of life and leaves lasting paw prints on our hearts. There is a special kinship shared between dogs and people of all ages. Attention from a dog can brighten your day, make you feel loved and, as has been scientifically proven to improve overall health and well-being.
It costs Delta Society over $1,000 every year to support each of their 1,000+ Delta Therapy Teams. This includes recruiting each volunteer and their dog, assessing and reassessing the team, training the team to their professional standards, providing uniforms, providing insurance, placing the team in a participating health care facility and providing ongoing support.
As a non-profit organisation with no government funding, Delta needs support from generous members of the public to ensure they can continue to offer this vital programme.
My team is Nike and Stuart. Here is Nike. A beautiful Border Collie.
