Hands Across Canberra Impact Report 2018-2019
October 18, 2019
Congratulations Diane Bray AM FAICD FFIA and Peter Gordon and the Board of Hands Across Canberra for the inspiring lunch today, made possible by so many brilliant companies and the generous support of The National Gallery. The impressive Vital Signs Report in 2018 has now been followed up by the Impact Report 2018-2019 which shows so many positives – but also very sad statistics for our town.
- . The number of ACT rough sleepers has doubled from the 2011 to the 2016 Census;
- . 9% of ACT people live in poverty;
- . Over 76,000 in our little community suffer from mental illness;
- . 75% of all mental illness manifests by the age of 25;
- . 55% of female homeowners who leave their home because of domestic violence become homeless in 12 months
… On a more positive note, #HandsAcrossCanberra has distributed $567,000 in grants and donations, 81 charities have been supported and 20 new business partnerships have been formed. Almost 37% of Canberrans volunteer. The road ahead is looking brighter with Hands Across Canberra in our lives.
Thank you Diane and your team.
